I think being judgmental is a natural instinct that can be used for good or bad. Good, as I mention in the video below, in that it helps us make decisions and can keep us out of harm’s way, but it can also be bad in that it stops us from being open to new ideas, cultures, and experiences.
Because it’s natural to be judgmental, I don’t think there is any use in feeling guilty about having those feelings. Instead, acknowledge that you’re feeling judgmental and work to see beyond it. Consider other points of view and try to put yourself in someone else’s shoes. Your aim should be understanding. Your goal is to be open-minded, accepting, and kind. Just because it’s “natural” to feel judgmental, doesn’t mean there’s nothing that can be done about it.
I feel similarly about feeling jealous or territorial. It’s all animal instinct that can be used for good or bad. But if you feel you’re doing it too much or that it’s hurting you or others, then change it! Recognize the tendency and GROW.
