There are few rituals I love more than my morning cup of coffee. It is the one routine that has been a part of my life every single morning since I was 16 years old. I find it very comforting to know that even though a lot of things change–apartments, cities, relationships, jobs–my morning coffee has been a constant. It may seem like a lot of attention on a simple beverage, but when thinking about all of the different mornings I’ve had–traveling on vacation or rushing to get to school, or even Christmas morning–I realized that coffee has always been there and in a strange way, I like knowing that it always will.
Over the years, I’ve had my coffee every which way–cappuccino, latte, Americano, drip, pour-over, french press– and have found that good ‘ole regular drip is my favorite for everyday. Because of this, I’ve also tried just about every brand, blend, and roast on the market and to be honest, only a select few are truly memorable. Which is why I was very surprised to find that this hazelnut coffee from Folgers–a brand I’d long since categorized as “ehh”–was so undeniably special.
I don’t normally buy Folgers but the little bodgea by my apartment was only carrying Folgers Hazelnut and some strange off-brand that was more than twelve dollars. (I can’t help but find the often random and somewhat absurd inventory of NYC bodegas utterly amusing.) So I made a game-time decision and opted for Folgers because, well, it was cheaper.
I brewed the first cup later that morning, added a dash of skim milk, and took a sip. DUDE. Game changer.
“Could it be this is the best hazelnut coffee I’ve ever had???” I thought in complete disbelieve. No offense to Folgers, but I’ve had much “better quality” varieties and this blew them out of the water.
If you don’t think you’re a Folgers fan, I urge you to try this coffee. It’s absolutely delicious, easy to find, and roughly half the price of many other fancy, flavored roasts.
Give it a try and let me know what you think! And while you’re at it, tell me, what is your favorite part of your morning routine? Comment below or Tweet me: @MissVranHalen
