I’ve been using this mask for years and have come to rely on it whenever my skin is feeling congested or looks dull. This simple mask is made with only two ingredients that can be found in most grocery stores and, best of all, it’s insanely affordable compared to similar, pre-made versions on the market.
The star of the show is 100% pure Calcium Bentonite clay.
Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay is the brand I use the most often. I get it at Whole Foods where it generally costs about 8 dollars, which is a bargain because you only use a tablespoon at a time, meaning this container lasts forever!
The back label says “Feel it Pulsate” which it totally does and would be creepy if it wasn’t one of those weirdly fun things like Pop Rocks or cleaning your ears.
Bentonite clay has negatively charged molecules giving it the ability to act like a sponge and absorb the toxins from your skin. This reaction causes a gentle pulsing feeling and the effect is a cleaner, brighter completion.
This is usually about a teaspoon or two. You can play around with it until it looks like the right consistency by mixing in additional clay or vinegar. The mixture should be thick, smooth, and kind of foamy.
Wash your face and lightly pat dry around your eyes, mouth, and hair line, leaving most of the face damp.
Apply a thin layer of the mask and let it dry for about 10-15 minutes–or, more accurately, approximately the length of two or three YouTube videos. You’ll know when it’s time to wash it off because YOU WONT BE ABLE TO MOVE YOUR FACE! (It’s not as scary as it sounds, I swear, the mask just hardens as it draws out impurities.)
Run a clean wash cloth under warm water, ring it out, and let it sit on your face for a few seconds. This helps break up the mask –and it feels amazing.
Rinse with warm water, pat dry, and moisturize with a thick night cream and your skin will feel sooooo refreshed!
I’ve featured this mask in 3 videos to date. Check them out to learn more!
This DIY Spa Night is one of the first videos I ever made on YouTube!
These two are both from Vlogmas 2014!
