How to Dress like your Favorite Oscar Nominee

There are many ways to celebrate the Oscars but perhaps the most creative is to dress like your favorite character in a nominated film.

This Gone Girl inspired look is a two parter: an effortlessly chic daytime look, and a fierce but playful evening ensemble. To pull off Amy’s simple but polished daytime look, pair a thin sweater with fitted, stretchy jeans. Add dainty earrings and a statement ring to pull the look together and ensure that it’s not too casual.

The nighttime was look was inspired by Amy’s black Peter Pan collared dress at the end of the movie. Trade the skin-tight cocktail dress for something a little more playful–and easier to breathe in–like this black skater skirt for a fun take on this intense look.

I got a little wild (sorry) and came up with two variations of Cheryl’s hiking look. The outfit on the left is a total copycat, perfect to wear while representing your pick for Best Picture at tonight’s Oscar party (or you know…while actually hiking.) My favorite part of her outfit was definitely the red lace up hiking boots! They add a little personality and an unexpected pop of color to an otherwise plain look. The outfit on the right is something I would actually wear in real life. I swapped the cargo shorts for a more modern, lace embellished design and paired the white tee with this awesome olive green jacket.

Add a cute backpack and  a touch of bronzer (to fool people into thinking you’ve been on a long, introspective journey in the wilderness) and your Wild look is complete!

These incredibly feminine looks were inspired by the early days of Stephen and Jane’s relationship at Cambridge. While I can’t imagine myself wearing either outfit in real life, I think an Oscar party is the perfect time to step outside of your comfort zone and try something new. The key to Jane’s retro-glam look is a fitted mid-length dress with a high neck line.

Because the dresses are both relatively simple, accessories are incredibly important. Playful, girly details like long gloves and a tiny evening bag turn this otherwise plain white dress into the perfect Oscar party ensemble.

My favorite look of them all has to be these Birdman inspired get ups–but that may just be because I heart all things Emma Stone. To get Sam’s badass punk-rock look, pair a loose tank top with an exposed bandeau bra and distressed denim shorts–and don’t forget to add a pair of clunky, unbuckled biker boots to show that you’re dark, complicated, and full of feeeeelings.

The outfit on the right is more my style. I love all things high-waisted so these distressed denim shorts are right up my alley. I would pair them with a cool, unstructured coat and these amazing ankle boots.
