I just finished reading This is Where I Leave You on a recent beach vacation and LOVED it. And in the off chance that all caps was too subtle, allow me to clarify, I LOVED IT.
In a nutshell, it is about a family of grown children and their mother (reluctantly) sitting shiva after the death of their father. It follows one of the sons, Judd, and we see the ins and outs of love and family in a way that is frank, honest, cynical and full of heart.
This was the kind of book you read slowly for fear it will end too soon. Jonathan Tropper is one of those writers who has the ability to make you laugh, cry, question everything you know about and love, and remind you that you are not alone all in a single page. 300+ pages later, you are left with the feeling of having been a part of these people’s lives, and more, their family. Their weird, dysfunctional, loving, messed up and oddly familiar family.
I highly recommend picking up This is Where I Leave You this summer! If you do, let me know what you think of it in the comments below. Also, let me know if there are any books you think I should check out 🙂
** I wouldn’t suggest this book for people under college age, not because it’s a difficult read but because it is rather adult pertaining to both sex and life experience as a whole. 20s and up, I’d say.
